Writing Coach

A writing coach is neither your editor nor a ghostwriter.

A writing coach won’t be actually teaching you how to write, per se. You already know that.

A writing coach is there to help ease out things. The role of a writing coach is not limited to content that goes in your book, you can hire one for your blog/website as well!

First things first. Who can coach you? Someone who has authored a book or two here and there? Someone who has never written but has successfully posed as a ‘coach’ of many a thing under the sun? A literary agent? Honestly, I wouldn’t know. I’ll tell you what I know and how I can be a good writing coach to you. I am a professional editor as well as a writer. I have been doing this thing for years now. From working for a newspaper to working with publishing houses, authors, agencies, government organisations, schools, and more, I have dealt with content of almost all imaginable types.

  • As a writing coach, I will be helping you form your story or article. I will read what you have written or listen to the idea you have had, and we will bounce some ideas to come to the one that clicks.
  • I will help you meet deadlines by pushing you towards kicking the treacherous writer’s block.
  • I have been professionally writing since 2008, and being paid good money for that.
  • I have in-depth knowledge of how developmental edit works. My expertise and knowledge will be beneficial in getting your thoughts and ideas to the page.
  • I work with fiction and non-fiction writers, however, I deal with only subjects I have knowledge about. Medical books & papers, or extreme engineering content are not my forté, hence I never accept clients writing on these subjects.
  • I will help you set a pattern and give an objective to your writing. I will be your cheerleader wherever you get stuck.
  • I will be empathetic, yet hold you accountable. We will be moving towards a common goal of completing what you began to write.
  • Being an experienced editor, my feedback on characters, storyline, plot, etc will be valuable inputs that will put your writing on the correct path right from the beginning.
  • I will be brutally honest. There is no other way I would rather be. You will be paying me for my honest opinion and guidance, and I strongly believe that all negative criticism should come from me instead of from your readers.
  • I have relevant industry experience.

A writing coach is not an editor. If I work with you as a writing coach, I will not be your editor. Neither is a writing coach the ghostwriter. I will be coaching and assisting you with the writing which you will be doing. If you want my editing services as well, I can advise you on the same and share a customised quote based strictly on the project we shall be working on.

I won’t expect you to follow all my advice blindly. I would love resistance from you, with hard facts so that we can come to a decision that is best for your manuscript.

Let me help you reach your writing goal. Let’s connect at editor@samarpita.in and discuss your requirements, my deliverables, and the financials involved.

Samarpita Mukherjee Sharma has edited two books for me, my collection of short stories, Of Swans and Songs, and a yet to be published novel.
She painstakingly pored over, proofread and edited every successive draft of my manuscript, suggesting valuable changes/corrections, all of which reflect her diligence and commitment to her client as also her exceptional professional competence.
She went beyond her role of editor to help me sort some of my computer related issues. She generously invested her time and energy in helping me get my work published, suggesting literary agents and publishing houses, and also put me in touch with reviewers.
Working with her was an absolutely stress-free and extremely pleasant and productive experience.

If you are looking for an editor who does more than just clean up the manuscript, Samarpita is your person. Right from bridging gaps in the plot to development of characters,  she has played an important role making ‘A Cage of Desires’ the book that it is. Her passion for books and reading has given her an in-depth perspective of storytelling, which she brings to her editing. Whether you are an aspiring author or an established one, I strongly recommend her editing services.

I have known Samarpita di for a long time now. She’s been my mentor when it comes to writing, and also when it comes to life. When I was asked to get an editor for my novel, All Signs Lead Back To You, she was the person I turned to blindly. She helped me clear the clutter that was Ashwin and Diya’s story, and tell the story i wanted to tell. When it comes to editing, Sam di is your person! Being an author myself, I know how scary it is to leave your baby in someone else’s hands. Trust me, Sam di will know better than you how to treat your book.

Anyone writing his first book is always in two minds about how to take it ahead, In my case, for my first book ‘Different Beads of The Same String’ it was more so because I was going through a medical condition which required a surgery. But I also wanted to make sure that my book releases before that, and hence I not only wanted quality edit but time was an essence too.

That is when I was referred to Samarpita. Not only were her suggestions noteworthy, but the quality of her work was great too. And not only that, she ensured a lightening quick turnaround time as well, without really compromising on the quality.

Needless to say that I had no second thoughts in approaching her for my second book ‘The Sameness in Consistent Change’. Samarpita’s work is exhaustive and her suggestions are in line with the theme of the story. I am happy that I got in touch with her because she helped e shape my work with great precision.

Samarpita has been a great help in getting my book edited. Her insights made me look at a few things in a different way and has brought out the character in my manuscript. She has been really helpful even after having the document back from the publishers, in reviewing and indicating where it could be improved. I'm looking forward to getting my future books edited by her, as well.
